Why Did God Send Jesus?

God the Father sent Jesus because He created us, loves us and desires a relationship with us. Through Jesus, God revealed His love, mercy, and truth in a way we could clearly see and understand. In John 14, Jesus teaches that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him, revealing the perfect unity between the Father and the Son.

As we come to know Jesus, we discover that God is not distant from our pain. Through Jesus Christ, God stepped into our broken world to show us that He understands what it means to be human and the challenges we face. Jesus experienced joy and sorrow, love and rejection, friendship and betrayal, compassion and suffering. Because Jesus truly understands the human experience, we can trust that God knows our struggles and hardships.

When we believe in Jesus, follow Him, and share His love with others, the Holy Spirit begins to transform us from within. As our faith grows, God shapes our character to become more like Christ, producing the fruit of the Spirit and helping us reflect His love, kindness, patience, and grace in our everyday lives.

When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we are never alone. The Holy Spirit lives within every believer, giving us strength when we are weak, comfort when we are hurting, wisdom when we need guidance, and hope when life feels uncertain. Although we will still face trials and suffering in this life, God walks with us and promises eternal life with Him.

Jesus Understands Our Suffering

One of the most powerful moments in Scripture is Jesus’ cry from the cross:
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, quoting Psalm 22).
Christians have understood these words in different ways throughout history, but all agree they reveal the depth of Jesus’ suffering as He gave His life for us.
Before His death, Jesus declared, “It is finished” (John 19:30), announcing that His work of redemption was complete. Then He prayed, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46).
Because Jesus personally experienced suffering, Hebrews 4 tells us that He is able to sympathise with our weaknesses. He understands us not because He merely observed suffering but because He endured it Himself.

What Jesus Experienced

During His earthly life, Jesus experienced many of the same struggles we face today.
Betrayal: Judas Iscariot, one of His own disciples, betrayed Him for money. Others who followed Him also failed Him during His greatest hour of need.
Abandonment: When Jesus was arrested, His disciples fled. Peter, despite his promises of loyalty, denied knowing Jesus three times.
Envy and Jealousy: Many religious leaders opposed Jesus because they envied His influence and authority.
Rejection: Jesus was rejected by many people, including those from His own hometown and crowds who once praised Him.
False Accusations: Jesus was falsely accused of blasphemy and of threatening the Roman government, though He was innocent.
Mockery and Humiliation: Some who praised Jesus then humiliated and mocked Him. Roman soldiers placed a crown of thorns upon His head and mocked Him, calling Him “King of the Jews”.
Physical Suffering: Jesus was scourged, beaten, forced to carry His cross, and crucified. He endured intense physical pain while willingly giving His life for our salvation.
Grief: Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus and mourned over Jerusalem because many rejected God’s invitation.
Loneliness: In the Garden of Gethsemane, His closest friends fell asleep while He prayed in deep anguish before His arrest.
Temptation: Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness and throughout His ministry, yet He remained without sin.
Misunderstanding: Even His disciples often misunderstood His mission and teachings before His resurrection.
Compassion, Fatigue, and Weariness: Jesus became weary, hungry, thirsty, and physically exhausted. Even while suffering, He continued to show compassion, mercy, and love for others. Whatever you are facing today, Jesus understands. He experienced the hardships of this world and remains our faithful Saviour who walks with us through every trial.

The Fruit of the Spirit
Jesus perfectly demonstrated this throughout His life. Through the Holy Spirit, He develops these same qualities in everyone who follows Him.
Love: Selfless, sacrificial love that seeks the welfare of others.
Joy: A deep and lasting gladness rooted in God's promises rather than circumstances.
Peace: Inner confidence that comes from trusting God and pursuing peace with others.
Patience: Enduring hardship and difficult people with grace and perseverance.
Kindness: Showing compassion, generosity, and genuine care for others.
Goodness: Living with integrity and doing what is right even when it is difficult.
Faithfulness: Remaining loyal, dependable, and committed to God.
Gentleness: Strength under control, responding with humility and grace.
Self-Control: Choosing God's will over sinful desires and wisely governing our thoughts, words, and actions.
These qualities grow within us as we walk with Jesus Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts.
